    About Energetiq

    Energetiq is a developer and manufacturer of advanced light sources that enable the manufacture and analysis of nano-scale structures and products. Used in complex scientific and engineering applications such as analytical instruments for life sciences and leading edge semiconductor manufacture, Energetiq's light products are based on new technology that generates high brightness across the spectrum, from 1nm to 1000nm and beyond, with high reliability, long operating life, and in a compact package.

    Applications

    Energetiq's light sources are used for: analytical spectroscopy, microscopy, and sensing in the life-sciences; lithography, metrology and photoresist development in semiconductor manufacturing; soft x-ray microscopy; and a variety of applications where synchrotron radiation and traditional arc-lamps have commonly been used.

    The Team

    Energetiq was founded in March 2004 by an experienced high technology development team with deep understanding of the high power plasma physics needed for high performance light products used by semiconductor equipment manufacturers, semiconductor wafer fabs, life sciences industries and the scientific research community. The expertise and experience of this team enables Energetiq to provide products with the highest levels of performance and reliability.

    Thorlabs Acquires Optical Fiber Processing Company, Vytran

    Thorlabs announced today that it has entered into a definitive asset purchase agreement to acquire Vytran from Denmark-based NKT. Headquartered in Morganville, New Jersey, Vytran is a market leader in the production of high performance products to taper and fuse optical fiber. Their fiber processing technologies are utilized in a broad range of precision applications including telecommunications, medical components, fiber lasers, and sensing systems. A closing of the transaction is anticipated to take place in September 2015.

    “We are excited to have Vytran join the Thorlabs team,” said Alex Cable, President and Founder. “Their expertise and product offering are natural additions to our current fiber draw and cabling competencies. As we bring them on board, we will leverage the extensive experience Thorlabs has in nanopositioning, imaging, electronics, and mechanics to further develop their core competencies so as to remain at the forefront of current market needs while also expanding the product line to address new market opportunities. ”

    Vytran’s New Jersey manufacturing facility as well as its customer support centers in Exeter, United Kingdom and Hangzhou, China will continue to operate from their current geographical locations. In addition, Thorlabs will fully integrate Vytran’s product line into its ecommerce site and provide service and support through its global offices.

    Lumencor’s SOLA light engines keep improving and adding new capabilities. Our NEW SOLA SM and SE 365 models make the switch from mercury arc lamps easier than ever. Fluorophores such as DAPI can be efficiently excited using the 365 nm Hg line filter sets you already have. And new applications such as photoactivation of “caged” compounds and ultraviolet-activated polymerization and photosensitization become possible. In all SOLA light engines, an array of visible light sources, operating simultaneously with either a violet or an ultraviolet source, is efficiently combined to generate brilliant white light output. The established SOLA SM and SE II models have violet (~395 nm) sources. The new models contain ultraviolet sources (~365 nm). Why tolerate the limitations of an archaic arc lamp in your microscope when such a reliable and technically superior replacement is within easy reach?

    New products from Thorlabs, Liquid Crystal Tunable Filter

    Liquid Crystal Tunable Filter

    Thorlabs’ Liquid Crystal (LC) Tunable Bandpass Filter incorporates liquid crystal cells sandwiched between polarizing elements, much like Loyt or Solc filters, that are used to quickly change the transmission band within the 420 - 730 nm range (see plot to the bottom right). The KURIOS-WB1 filter tunes continuously over the operating wavelength, providing rapid and vibrationless tuning of the filter's center wavelength. Due to its rapid tuning capabilities, this liquid crystal tunable filter (LCTF) is ideal for applications such as multispectral or hyperspectral imaging (see video below) and is ideal for use with charge-couple devices (CCDs). For instance, using this filter in conjunction with a CCD camera produces images with a much higher accuracy for color representation than using a standard CCD camera with a Bayer mosaic. This technique produces true spectral imaging and can thus show spectral features that would otherwise be impossible to detect.

    New SOLA SM from Lumencor

    Lumencor are happy to announce the newest Lumencor light engine, the SOLA SM (the M stands for manual). The SOLA SM is a basic illuminator, with the same performance and spectral range as the SOLA product today, but specifically targets the lower end fluorescence market. It does not require a remote control or a computer to control the light engine; it can be turned on or off by a manual rocker switch located on the front panel or with a latching footswitch that comes standard with each SOLA SM light engine.

    Lumencor have been listening to the input and requests from the field and now can offer the light engine you've all been asking for. At this price point it should compete very well with lamp solutions on all fronts.
